Obsessed With "Obsessed"

The single "Obsessed" strongly proves that Mariah Carey's still got it.

The song was like a new leaf for Mariah, with Los Angeles Times saying, "a feistier Mimi than [they]'re used to", "has been molded to fit current trends" and "again sells out the songbird to her producers".

"Obsessed" also features lyrics that "everyone would be talking about", says The-Dream, a co-writer of the song. After a few hours after its release, MTV stated that, "Carey alludes to drug problems in "Obsessed," which Eminem opened up about on his latest album, Relapse."

The song also feature a different sound compared to her songs on her 11th studio album, E=MC². Rolling Stone magazine stated that, "the biting mid-tempo track is already more musically and lyrically engrossing than E=MC²’s singles."

Mariah herself described the song as, "SO me!" via Twitter.

Although "Obsessed" is not getting airplays compared to her previous songs, the song has been climbing up the charts, getting the 52nd spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

Sources states that it is Mariah's ability to manipulate the Billboard chart for her songs to become hits.

"Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" will be released on August 24, 2009.
