Nirvana: Gods At Reading

Nirvana: Gods At Reading Any and every Nirvana fan has probably seen footage from their legendary performance at Reading 1992. Nirvana’s very last concert in the UK was arguably the best gig that they ever did; not only in the United Kingdom but also worldwide.

In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the band’s debut album Bleach, Nirvana: Live at Reading has been released and if you didn’t manage to catch the actual performance, this is probably the next best thing. The quality of both the CD and DVD astonishes, especially considering that the immense scope of the venue and the length of time ago that it was recorded.

1992 was of course smack bang in the middle of the frenzy which was of course the phenomenal album Nevermind and of course, the play list centers heavily of the tracks from this album including the major hits such as Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are and Lithium. However, the tracks that were performed also include little known Nirvana songs, namely D-7 which can only be heard on random box sets and Youtube clips. There is even a track that I myself have never even heard of entitled The Money Will Roll Right In which is a rough tune with a catchy hook which would have no doubt fitted in perfectly on Nevermind or In Utero.

Fortunately, Nirvana’s hits are performed but with a very different edge. The most noticeable difference is probably on the band’s performance of Come as You Are which is a lot edgier and dynamic than the calm and relaxed studio version.

If you’re a Nirvana fan and you didn’t manage to catch this live, then race out to your nearest record store and get this; it’s undeniably the best piece of work they’ve ever done.
