Imagine Dragons' "Continued Silence EP" Review
Valentine's Day 2012 brought love and hate for many people worldwide. In Imagine Dragons' case, love came to me in the form of their new EP titled Continued Silence. As a newer listener of their music, I found the band to be amazingly versatile and bold in their musical abilities.
Upon putting on the CD, the first thing you'll hear is the soft beginning guitar strums of "Radioactivem". A daring song with almost chant-like, haunting vocals, it's an amazing opener to a really amazing EP. The sudden stop for a sharp intake of breath that leads to the buildup of the song emphasizes the band's fearlessness with music and true belief in the concept of experimental, as is also seen in the indie pop tune, "It's Time". With dreamy lyrics dotting the melody ('Don't look back/Turning to rags/And giving the commodities a raincheck') and passionate vocals, both serve their purpose as the soundtrack to an eventful spring.
"On Top of the World" is probably one of my favorite songs off of this. With its positive lyrics and truly happy chorus, it's a real eye-opener to the better aspects of life. "Round and Round" is a song for those touched with a sense of wanderlust, dying to really explore the world and all it has to offer. Both "My Fault" and "Demons" are songs that address the stress of romance ('It's woven in my soul/I need to let you go'), and even life itself, something I think everyone needs to face at some point.
Overall, I think this EP is one of the best releases of 2012. With such a strong release, I believe Imagine Dragons will go very far in 2012, and very much beyond just being featured in the soundtrack for Gossip Girl.
