Mirotic

Mirotic is the fourth Korean album released by South Korea's hottest TVXQ on September 26, 2008 which was also the last Korean album featuring Xiah Junsu, Micky Yoochun, and Hero Jaejoong. It was a commercial breakthrough and managed to be TVXQ's most successful album up to this day.

"Mirotic (Magic Spell)"

I don't know how anyone can listen to this song and not want to dance along with it. Being the lead track for the album itself, it did bring along controversy as critics stated this was a very sexualized song, but that didn't stop people from listening or continuing to buy it.

The music video also explains how all five members are taken by a witch and try desperately to break away from the 'magic spell'.

The lyrics also have a very powerful meaning and after dissecting it do you realize the real meaning behind it.

"Wrong Number"

Another one of my all time favorite songs from this album.

"Wrong Number" includes the distress each member feels when finding themselves in a relationship and not being able to have their other half trust them. I actually find this totally relatable as relationships are meant to be based on trust, not suspicion.

Plus the music video is hot so it just adds to the depth of the song itself.

"Picture Of You"

This is one song that really pulls at my heartstrings. While I have to remember that the Mirotic album was one of the last Korean albums produced by all five members of TVXQ, this sort of gives you that lasting, bitter-sweet emotion.

The music video shows bouts of how all five of them bond on a certain level and divide personally as well. Their interactions and innocence just break my heart as well as the soothing lyrics to the song that explains undying love for their special someone.

Though one of my favorite lines, sung by Max Changmin, basically explains the depth of the lyrics with their open heart, "Look at me, love you, this foolish you." talk about how beautiful that line is on its own and how flawless their love as a whole happens ot be.

On top of that, Xiah Junsu had created the lyrics and thus, made something so beautiful and straight from the heart, I couldn't help but love it even more.

"Crazy Love"

Though the music isn't something that was my favorite within this song, I can't help but respect the lyrics as a whole. To be honest, I think the lyrics really pulled me into the song itself.

"Crazy Love" basically explains how all five members fall desperately in love and basically confess their feelings to a woman who has made them nothing less than crazy.

"Hey! (Don't Bring Me Down)"

After listening to this song did I basically scrounge the internet for immediate download. The beat seriously fires up the adrenaline that courses through my veins and is something I simply can't help from recommending to anyone that takes an interest.

"You're My Melody"

I don't think TVXQ could have sang to a more perfect song than this. This is one of the few of their soft, slow ballads that I actually have on my iTunes because of the purest meaning of love and joy.

"Rainbow"

The innocence of the title and the somewhat happy beat of the music itself threw me off as the lyrics had a completely different meaning behind it. Speaking of goodbyes to a certain love and experiencing a sense of longing for the ways of their past, "Rainbow" explains the depth of the five members youth and how they are growing past the depressing bouts of clouded rain and into this rainbow filled season of happiness and joy.

"Paradise"

Talking about falling in love, I can admit that I would be able to fall in love with someone else just listening to this song. "Paradise" has that sense of heaven to it (excuse the irony) and the voices of all five members can really haramonize and make the lyrics more than just peaceful in a sense.

The whole message in this song is basically the happiness they can find with just that other person in their said"Paradise".

"Are You A Good Girl?"

I love this song basically because it differ's from the message within the others on this album. While songs such as "Paradise" or "Rainbow" involve a hearty theme, "Are You A Good Girl?" expresses the frustration of all five members trying desperately to impress a woman who doesn't seem to be interested whatsoever.

Though they are in the wrong for falling for a woman who want's someone better in a sense, the thought of going on without this "good girl" is completely past the question. I definetely recommend this one as the song has its catch as well.

"Flower Lady"

I don't think any of these songs have the beauty of such lyrics as "Flower Lady". Comparing a woman to something as precious and beautiful as a flower completely blew my mind as the lyrics are so detailed and intricate with honest love.

The delicate acoustic that opens the song is a sense of happiness as well as the intro of all five members harmonizing. I don't see this song as something that's praised for being a part of the Mirotic album, and if there is one song that you really want to choose out of all of these, then"Flower Lady"is the one!

"Forgotten Season"

I really adored this track because it was a solo taken on by Hero Jaejoong and I don't know if there's a better way to explain how beautiful his voice is. I could fall asleep to this song over and over again. I guess Jaejoong's always had that little twist in his voice and it's about one of the most powerful voices TVXQ could offer as a whole.

The lyrics to this one, after listening to it the first time, made me break down. The honesty of being forgotten (much like a "Forgotten Season" in a sense) tore my heart into pieces. If a song has this much power, it's definetely worth listening to.

"Love In The Ice"

This track was written by Max Changmin and, let me tell you, much like Xiah Junsu's "Picture of You", "Love in the Ice" has the same amount of beauty and happiness.

Instead of showing pain from their perspective, the five members explain how this woman that has completely entranced them with beauty is too afraid, too scarred to love anyone else because of past relationships in which they've been hurt.

I give props to the youngest of TVXQ, Max Changmin, for writing this with such an open heart. It really shows a different side to his funny, empathetic ways.

Overall

My bad habit when it comes down to listening to albums is that I really don't go ahead and take on the full length of the album itself. Most of the lead tracks have music videos and are in everyone's blog or comment section. For me, I just stop there.

Mirotic is my first Korean pop album to really look into and if I thought of myself as a die hard fan before, then there is no question. The whole of this album (aside a few awkward song beats) is pure and perfect. The lyrics are what really catch my attention aside the song. The song with harmonized TVXQ members and a jerk on my heartstrings is really just a 2nd pull on bringing me into the trap.

I give Mirotic a 8/10
