It's true I wanted to mention little bits like who it is you're shooting, but I felt that particularly with this game going in blind, as I did, helps to create a much more involved experience. The gum conversation, as well as several of the other conversations and interactions seem to be done to draw parallels to other games that glorify war, namely games like the ones I mentioned in the review.
And the flashes were something I didn't notice till a fair way through, but when I did, particularly how they play into the ending, added another layer to my mental exhaustion by the time I finished, particularly with the ending I chose (Road Back).

That's a valid argument to be quite fair, but I felt that it made the game as a whole a lot stronger, again, without spoilers, it means that the game cuts out with such an unusually rapid pace that again it's quite jarring. I felt that it left me more affected because it effectively pulls the carpet from under you then laughs in your face. Remember this game is showing the brutal, unsatisfying nature of war, it wasn't about to give you satisfaction near the end!

I liked your review, but you missed a couple of important part that would not qualify as spoilers. First, you're shooting American soldiers, which allows for some intereting new areas. You probably rembember the Gum conversation near the begining of the game. It strikes me i've seen that conversation before but in Farsi in other games.
Also did you notice the corrolations between the white and black flashes?

This game had me on edge the whole time, but I was somewhat disappointing in the ending(s). It has a tight grip on you from beginning to end, but I somewhat hoped that maybe the ending wasn't true. The game play is definitely worth the buy, and I would play it again and again, but its a lot to think about. Great review though Very Happy

Glad you liked it, it's good to see that someone gets what this game is like! I genuinely felt quite guilty by the end of it, I was convinced that my actions were the right ones at the time but when the pieces get laid out in front of you it's a jarring feeling, as though it's actively punishing you for doing what you did.
It does raise the question though does a GAME designed around the idea of killing and being rewarded for said killing have a right to chastise you for doing it?
    Oh the bittersweet irony.

This is a wonderful review on such a fantastic game! I understand what you mean about all other war games being the same "shoot the bad guys", though I still find myself playing them haha! Anyway, I absolutely love The Line because of how different it is. Not many people have heard of this game, at least not anyone I know, so it's great to see I'm not the only person who adores it.
