Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace This film is set in the times where slaves were as common as house flies and treated just as bad. The British never thought twice about the rights of slaves until John Newton came to his senses, but it wasn’t he who ended the slave trade.

From a young age the evangelical Christian, William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd) strived to end the barbaric and inhumane trade of men, women and children. In 1782, at the age of 21 he was elected as a member of parliament in the House of Commons where he began his great battle to abolish the slave trade in England.

With the help of his good friend William Pitt the Younger (Benedict Cumberbatch), England’s youngest Prime Minister, he persevered for two decades.

William hit a low more than a decade into his war. After devoting so many years to the fight for the rights of slaves, absolutely nothing had changed. He had given up on hope feeling he had done all he could.

This is when he fell in love with beautiful Barbara Spooner (Romola Garai), an ambitious young lady who convinces William that he is the only person capable of completing this task. He eventually marries her and she became his strongest support .Soon he was back, fiercer and more passionate than ever.

Finally in the year 1807 the bill to abolish the slave trade in England forever was passed in through government.

This movie won’t fail to impress and entertain. You’ll be either crying or laughing throughout the whole two hours of it. This inspirational film is not to be missed!
