Mortuary- Horror or Comedy?

Mortuary- Horror or Comedy? First off, I would like to say that I have not seen any other Tobe Hooper films completely, so I have nothing to compare this movie to as far as the direction goes, but after reading many comments on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), it's obvious that this is nowhere near Tobe's best.

Mortuary is a horror/thriller story that follows the Doyle family. After being recently widowed, the mother Leslie moves her two children, the teenage Jonathan and the young girl, Jamie, to the small town of Santa Loraina, California. Leslie has purchased an abandoned funeral home (complete with front-yard cemetery), and has plans to become the town's new mortician. When Leslie purchased the gloomy estate from the creepy Elliot, she believes the reason for the abandonment is a faulty septic system and a strange black fungus that grows on everything, but the Doyle family will soon discover the truth behind the old abandoned Fowler Funeral Home.

Jonathan, who eventually shines as the main character, gets a job at a local diner, makes a couple friends, and goes on being the rebellious teenager in a broken family. All seems to be going well until Jonathan confronts his new-found companions, Liz and Grady, about the mysterious 'Bobby F', a name he found carved in a shelf in his room in the attic of his mortuary home. After Liz and Grady tell Jonathan about the Fowlers' dark past, locals disappear and all hell seems to break loose.

Just as the plot thickens and the action heats up, the quality of the film goes downhill. I can't even think of many decent things to say about this film, except though it's a sad excuse for a horror movie, it is entertaining, has a few decent twists and turns, and the corny script is good for a laugh.

I rate this movie with 6/10 stars... A slightly under-rated film that's over-all, worth watching.
