Secret Window

Secret Window For most people that have seen the movie and liked it, it's always for the same reasons. The weird twist at the end and Johnny Depp. Being based on a Steven King story this movie has a way of capturing the audiences attention, through slight humor all the way down to questioning your own sanity while your sitting on your couch watching the main character questioning his. The main character is Morton Rainey, a man who lives by himself, in a cute little cabin centered in New York. He is played by none other than Johnny Depp, the man who most people think of as the off-centered Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Only Johnny Depp isn't a drunk man swinging a sword.

In the movie Morton (Mort) is a writer who is troubled by his soon be to ex-wife's unfaithfulness and is trying to live through his day to day activities with no one to talk to but his dog Chico. Mort doesn't leave the house much, he takes long unnecessary naps on his worn-out couch and writes very little. Out of the blue one day he is awoken from one of his naps by a man knocking on his door. The man with the southern drawl goes by the name Shooter and is accusing Mort of plagiarizing one of his stories and that's where the movie takes off. Mort is basically alone in having to deal with Shooter's accusations and finds himself getting tangled up in shooters games.

The film is a different kind of movie, much like Johnny Depp is a different kind of man (making him the perfect guy the play the role). Much like all other films there will always be another very similar to it. This movie has been often times related to another (which I will not state) just because of endings are so similar, but overall the whole movie is completely different from each other so I believe the comparison is not accurate and shouldn't be brought up.

Also, there is other reasons why this movie is not very well know. Other than Johnny there aren't any other actors or actresses that are well known in the movie. Shooter is played by John Turturro, who didn't get known until about three years later, when he appeared in the first Transformers movie and Mort's unfaithful wife is played by Maria Bello who was in 2005's 'Thank You For Smoking' and will be in 2010's 'Grown Ups' with Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider.

Though the movie is said to be unoriginal and contains unknown actors and actresses, it is still a great watch. There is suspense, violence, drama, love and fire (for all those pyros). Johnny Depp captures the same fear both mentally and physically that Mort would be feeling and displays is wonderfully on camera. I highly recommend the movie for all people who love Johnny Depp and people who love suspense movies.
