I think that this movie can appeal to all different ages. The action in the movie was good even though there was little of it. This movie kept my atention which is good sense most movies don't. Over all was good but not the best by far.

In the movie, he looks more like 15 to me...
I even have a journal on all the changes:

I absolutely adore the Cirque du Freak series. However, the movie sucked in comparison. I mean, Mr. Crepsley was played well, but in my opinion, they got his character all wrong.
Everyone knows that the books are better than the movies.

The books were amazing, In my opninion the movie killed it. Alot of people liked the movie those who havn't read the book, but those who have didn't like it so much. There are some people who read the books and liked the movie though.

The age thing wasn't the major flaw. The major flaw was the way they scripted the timing and how things got lost. I did a review on this: http://reviews.mibba.com/Movie/3114/Cique-du-Freak-The-Vampires-Assistant

Definatly the best movie I have seen in a long time. Thougb the movie was edging on two hours, I felt like it was thrity minutes-very smooth in changes of scenes. I love Darren Shan, he's a wonderful writer.

The age difference didn't bother me as much as everyone else did. I just finished the third book this morning and the movie, to be completely honest, sucked in comparison. They only touched on the huge parts like Darren becoming a vampire's assistant and going to the Cirque. Other than that... everything was pretty much left out.
Also the lack of blood disappointed me, but that's coming from a girl who's one true love in life is Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd. XP
The movie itself was well-made. My mum liked it. My friend liked it. It was good, but as the natural course of things go, the books are a million times better.

went to see this, thoguht it was good, read the first 3 books, i now dont like the film so much.
it totally changed the books, but it had its own different story in a way.
Read the books, or watch the movie, but dont do both, they conflict waaaay too much :)

I swear, he was meant to be like 10, and Irish, and he didn't really fall for the girl until much later in the series (although she was there).
    I dunno, I'm a bit disappointed.

I found points like the crazy monkey girl bewildering and was disappointed that the left out my favourite pickled onion bit but aside from that this was an amazing film and I too found the effects like the flitting pretty good. I also thought that John C Riley was much better than anyone expected, playing Larten Crepsley to perfection.

Bit of a short review, but straight to the point, I guess.
Although, like the person below me said, Darren was 16 in the film. I didn't actually mind this change, though. I liked it.
What I didn't like, though, was the forced romance they'd put in it which was never in the books. And the fact that they felt the need to cram in future characters, because apparently 3 books wasn't enough.
Still, I loved the film. I'll definitely get it when it comes out on DVD.

I went to see this opening night and I loved it!
Although they have said there is a major diffrence between movie and book which was rather a let down, Darren being only 12 in the book and 16 in the film didn't swing it for me, nor did the continual spoilers of later books and throwing characters that did not have a place in the book. But overall the movie was full of witty lines and proved to most enjoyable with a fight scene that is one of the best I have seen in a childs movie.
