@ Deceit ; how can you blame a girl for being murdered? i know she was being a bit naive to go down into a hole with a man but y'know not many people i know look at the neighbours they know and think; well he's definitley a murderer.
book was better. ending was disspointing in both. there as no justice and no one found her body. ------> no real closure for the family.
I haven't read the book yet, because, surprisingly, I haven't been able to find it.
But in my opinion the movie was pretty bad.
In the previews, it says that the movie is about a dad trying to find his daughters killer, when really, it's just about a girl in between hevan and earth. Her dad kind of drops out towards the middle. So mainly, it's not what I thought it would be. And I agree that her killers death was way to random.
I still want to read the book, so that I can see what the icicle represents. Because I remember it being shown quite a few times in the movie.
the trailer made me think it wasn't gonna be good. and i was having second thoughts, because i had read the book. but when i saw it, i loved it. there was a lot of hidden meanings that only the readers could really understand, like the icicle thing. alice sebold is the best writer ever.
@Stalkedbypenguins but in the book that was how he really died. Although, in the book it had more meaning because Suzie brought up a couple times that an Icicle wouldb e the best murder weapon. The movie wasn't very good in my opinion, but only because it couldn't portray the book well enough.
i agree wit yu. this movie was a m a z i n g. i laughed, i smiled, i was happy for her when the boy asked her out. but then i cried [three times] when i saw exactly what happened. im the same age as her, we've had some of the same experiences. so i can connect with the movie. i love this movie.
this movie actually hit me straight to the heart, because i can sort of relate to the "in between" part. I like how they portrayed that. I think both the book and movie were amazing. Great review, by the way.
i loved the movie. I agree about what you said regarding the characters. I will admit that the night after seeing the movie I found myself tossing and turning, imagining "Mr. Harvey" watching me from my backyard. The movie did have some confusing moments, but I appreciated them. Parts of confusion were left for interpretation, you decide what they meant, how it relates to your beliefs regarding life after death. It meant different things to different people, my best friend and I realized after seeing the same movie that we both had very different opinions of it. good review!
the movie is terrible.
it switches from a dad searching for his daughters killer, to some little girl in 'the inbetween'.
the fantasy bit about where she was totally ruins it, in my opinion, and the ending is terrible.
Mr Harveys death is waaaay to comedic, being hit wth an icicle and then falling down a hill, and hitting every rock and branch on the way down? were we the only ones laughing at this?
it would have been better if he was caught and jailed or whatever.
Personally, I didn't like the book at all. I blamed Susie for most of what happened to her. I kind of had to force myself through the novel. I haven't seen the movie, nor do I intend to. This review was written quite well though. :]
I loved the movie i haven't read the book i've been planning so for 2 years but every time I get the chance people say no or I can't buy it. well the movie was nice i loved it even though I got lost on my way home
I hated that they still didn't find her body, and how the man died. He should have had a more slow painful death like Susie. But that movie was brilliant! I loved it and it made me laugh and cry.
I loved this article and agreed with all of it except one part,
I thought this movie was as alike to the book as it could be! I mean there were parts that obviously couldn't be put into the movie (ex. all of her murder) and there was much more description in the book but that's normal.
I thought they did Harvey's death great! Anyways, again I love the article :)
I have the book, but haven't had a chance to read it yet. As for the movie, I haven't seen it yet, because I really want to read the book before I do. Thanks for the review!
