I saw bits and pieces of the movie in different reviews and such and although the plot looks good (anything by Nicholas Sparks is good) the fact that Miley constantly looked like she had something nasty under her nose turned me off. I'm not a fan of her but if something looks good and she's in it, I'll suck it up and deal -- but the lack of emotion from her just didn't have me.

I read most of the book after I saw the movie, but I agree.
Especially since the book WAS written for the movie, you would think that it would live up to the expectations that the book left behind, but that definately wasn't the case. A lot of scenes that were in the book weren't even mentioned in the movie, which can always be a little frustrating.
In my case, with not reading most of the book before I saw the movie, though, it was a really enjoyable film, and I thought Miley did a lot better in it than a lot of people, including me, were expecting her to do.

I liked the movie.... The movie wasn't like the book, it was the same with Dear John. Miley was actually pretty good in it, my personal opinion is that if she gets away from the Hannah Montana reputation she has she could actually be a half decent actress. I will admit I cried but it wasn't like the book so I was a bit disappointed... The book's better, the movie is ehh okay.

I hate it when a book is turned into a movie and they have to shorten or re-write it because of the time. Like Twilight for example, the book is just awesome while the movie was, uh.. bleh. Same as the Last Song. Loved the book, the movie.. well.. I thought Miley did good though. But not THAT good.

I agree. These are important scenes because they make the characters who they are. Ronnie's father Steve has a close relationship with Pastor Harris and that is too significant to leave out. And the barrier that he created and Ronnie's refusal to play are important because they help to develop the relationship between Steve and Ronnie.

I personally didn’t like this movie at all. The book was fantastic(Nicholas Sparks always is!) and I agree, I was super disappointed at all the important points they left out(especially the wall barrier for the piano). Although Nicholas Sparks specifically envisioned Miley as Ronnie, I thought she wasn’t convincing at all and wasn’t the best choice(not hating either!). All in all, disappointing in my perspective.

I thought Miley was actualy really good in it.
But the movie did fall by the wayside because they left some great parts out.
Blaze on fire, Ronnie's dad building a wall around the piano, the line (I'm not looking at the book while I type this, but this was the jist of it):

"So you brought me down here for the summer to watch you die?"
"No, just the opposite, so coud watch you live."

And of course the Last Song. I was waiting troughout the whole movie for it- and i never came.

But aside from all the cuts, I still thought it was good. Yeah, yeah I cried, whatever. The book was better, no doubt. But the movie wasn't terrible.

I don't think it was bad because of miley, i think it was bad because of the choices made of what to cut/include

it also never showed the last letter that her father wrote, which was really the turning point for Ronnie to want to finish his song.

surprisingly, Miley wasn't terrible in the movie. she could have been a more convincing character, but if I fought hard enough I forgot it was her playing Ronnie. alright, just kidding. she was terrible.

This was great. Good job. And you know, I don't like Miley all that much but this movie still seems good.

Oh my god, you mean you're not going to trash the movie because "ZOMG THE SPAWN OF SATAN MILEY CYRUS IS IN IT!!!!!11"? well then!

But in all seriousness, I read the book when I heard about the movie, 'cause it caught my interest. I hated the book though, to be honest. It was just so cliché and cheesy and way too predictable. It's the only Nicholas Sparks book I've read and quite honestly, probably my last. **SPOILER** I'll admit though, I did cry when Ronnie's dad died. A lot. O.o I still want to see the movie, though. I think this is one of the rare instances when the movie is better than the book. For me, at least. I can see why people wouldn't want to see the movie if they actually enjoyed the book and it doesn't do it justice.

I completely, completely agree. After reading the book, the movie seemed almost unenjoyable. Also, Miley's acting didn't fully have me convinced. (I'm not trying to hate on her though!) The movie didn't show the intensity of the relationship between Ronnie and Steve and it made Steve seem like such a flat character which totally sucks because he goes through this entire self-discovery process in the book which I would have loved to see translated into the movie. Still, the movie was decent. I didn't cry like I expected, but I kind of liked it and would see it more than once :)
