I agree with all of this! I went to see it today in D-box, and I just had a blast! I really enjoyed it, although will admit that the actual video game attributes weren't completely correct, but it was still a very enjoyable film. :)
I found his acting highly believable, but to each their own; I definitely won't knock you for having one. I'm not even much of a fan of Jake, or rather, don't know much about him; I always saw him as a Hollywood pretty boy, but this movie kind of changed that image of him for me.
I can see where you'd be a bit reluctant to accept him as playing an ethnic role, but at the same time, it's Hollywood, so it isn't too surprising. I think he made the best of what he was given to work with and made it work. This movie is definitely one of my favorites.
I love the idea of an article about Hollywood; its standards are so...unobtainable. Even actors and actresses are developing unhealthy eating habits and disorders to achieve that goal of perfection. I've thought about writing that kind of article as well, it's something that I'm kind of passionate about (as you've seen in my previous post aha).
V First, I did pay attention to the movie and got that aspect of him not according to bloodline being a prince, but the character he played was/ is still Persian, a prince or not. For me Jake putting on a fake tan, and growing out his hair wasn’t enough for me. And which final fantasy game/movie are you talking about?
His entire role as Prince Dastan wasn’t believable at all for me. As I stated a real Persian should have played that part. The only thing the game and movie shared was the title. The movie wasn’t anything like the games. Jake looked like the guy from the games, which was Persian, not a prince, but still ethnically Persian no matter how you put it, his race was somewhat middle eastern and Jake’s is not. I’m going to write another article on the topic of white washing in movies, so maybe you might understand where I’m coming from when I decide to post it.
what people dont get if you payed attension to the storyline of the game and movie you would know that he isent actually a royalty witch means he dosent have to be persian he wasent really coloured in the games ether just taned same with this dustin another thing you most know is the creater of prince of persia said himself this is not a story of one prince but a story of many princes a hole world of them therefore the prince does not have to be of that colour in any of the games or future movie would you rant out the lead in final fantasy if the decided to cast him black? no that be racist so why rant jake out?
The movie was great, but I'm more a fan of a plot from the games ;) I guess that it's rather hard to make it just like the games especially that there are three different versions of this story.
I agree with Midnight Ruby, but you did just state your opinion(:
Good job.
And I loved the movie. I show when it came out and went to see it a second time.
The game it was based on, wasn't to amazing, but the movie was.
First I want say you wrote an excellent article. :]
Next I want to point out that I thought Jake was a very good actor to play Dastan.
I felt that the actors did a superb job.
But to each their own opinion.
:]
I think Jake is too... "modern" looking for a movie like this. I haven't seen it yet, but I really want to, but watching the previews for it, looking at Jake, he just doesn't seem to fit the role for a Persian Prince. idk, that's just me.
I've seen this movie twice, I love it. It's biggest praise is that it's the best video game based movie which I agree with.
I think the fact they all have British accents is a moot point; they have English accents in the game. As I've noticed with any media that's been made in and released in the United States no matter what part of the world a main character comes from, they always have a British twang, or the accent of that particular region is lessened and I think it has to do with whether or not they (they being the producers, creators, etc of a particular media i.e. video games, movies) think it'll be "understandable" (does that make any sense?)
I agree with Midnight Ruby on Gyllenhaal not being able to control his race; he did superb in his role. He wasn't pale; in fact he DID have color to him. I think Hollywood buys into this whole "American friendly" idea; if there is a main character who is to be of a different race, then more often than not, it's going to be an American with a fake tan. Let me clarify, this isn't ANYTHING that I agree with, I think it's idiotic when Hollywood does it for that reason. And I'm not going to pass my opinion off as fact because it's just that: an opinion.
But I digress: This film was definitely a winner for me. I love the way they incorporated more than a couple of aspects from the game to the movie. The Prince Of Persia series is remarkable, and I was excited to hear it announced that it would be turned into a film.
I'm cutting it here, because my comment's getting long, haha.
