I'm a fan of the Prince Of Persia games and I had mixed feelings when I heard they were turning it into a movie. The cast made the thought of a movie okay, but only after the trailer I knew it had something from the games.
The plot is quite a lot different than in the game POP:Sands of time, which by the way had a really, really great plot line, soundtrack and storytelling. It was for me like a movie (and good graphics as for that time..) But comparing it to the movie... Tamina was kind of useless. Princess Farah was at least some help to the prince during the game. Some more action wouldn't hurt... The best thing they did in this movie was Prince's personality and yes, Jake did make a good Prince, which surprised me.
But overall the movie is good :)April 24th, 2011 at 11:28pm -
I enjoyed the movie for the most part, but I hated the ending. I felt like the movie built me up for this amazing and heartfelt ending, but I was extremely disapointed in how it ended. It was a cliche happily ever after ending, but I suppose I should have expected that with a disney movie.April 24th, 2011 at 10:11pm

I agree with most of your article. However, I do disagree with your opening statements.
"Most would never consider watching the movie Prince of Persia, simply on the basis that the idea was adapted from a popular video game. This within itself, some would say, is a set up for disaster. Especially considering all of the failures that have precedented it: Alone in the Dark, Hitman, Doom, BloodRayne, and Resident Evil, to name a few."
I wouldn't consider Resident Evil a failure and I'm not familiar with the other ones. Despite the fact that Resident Evil strayed from the game plots (which annoyed the hardcore fans), Capcom approved the plot and actually turned down the idea of making a movie more faithful to the games. Movies based on games don't have to be failures. In fact, one of my favorite movies of all time is based on a board game (Clue 1985). Bad directors and bad vision will make a movie bad, no matter if the source material was brilliant or not. Also, when you have source material that is well known to base something off of, you're more likely to disappoint. Not necessarily because it's failing as a movie within itself but because people are comparing to what's usually an impossible ideal.
I also disagree with the fact that you think that people will avoid a movie simply because it's adapted from a video game. Most people I know didn't realize that the movie was based off of a video game and you're failing to take into account simply how desirable Jake is as a leading man. A great trailer, amazing directing and gorgeous leads tend to draw the crowds no matter what it's based off of.April 24th, 2011 at 05:57am -
