The Jerk Theory

The Jerk Theory is teenage drama, awkward comedy, and bad romance all thrown into one movie. The film follows Adam, who believes that the only way to get the girl is to treat her poorly. Unfortunately, he is proven right time after time, as he brings home girl after girl. Adam is happy making music with his band and playing with girls’ hearts, until he meets Molly, a girl who is done chasing after jerks and is ready to settle down with a nice guy. Adam soon learns that he may have to change his ways if he wants to get the girl.

The movie’s acting was subpar at best. My favorite role was performed by Tom Arnold. Arnold’s role as Father Bailey, the school’s priest, was a breath of fresh air throughout the film. He was charming, witty, and the only funny character in the movie.

The film had many original songs, sung by Adam’s band, that were barely worthy of being in the film. The only good song was Adam’s ballad to Molly sung at the end of the film. The rest of the songs felt out of place and unnecessary.

I am not a huge fan of The Jerk Theory. I would only recommend it to people who like films about high school romance that are similar to Mean Girls 2 and Too Perfect.
