Letters to Juliet

I’ve spent last night watching Letters to Juliet alone in my room to revel in the sweet and comedic moments that had me smiling to myself. This was the third time I’ve ever watched the movie and it finally dawned upon me that there were moments that required a few tweaks. After much contemplation, I finally decide to write a review about the romantic drama film.

Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), goes to Verona, Italy as a pre-honeymoon gift from her fiancĂ©e, Victor (Gael Garcia Bernal). During her stay there, the trip wasn’t exactly what she planned when she realized it wasn’t much of a honeymoon but a business opportunity for Victor. Things turn out differently when she meets the “Secretaries of Juliet”.

The plot was original and unique –traits that I don’t get to see everyday. But this wasn’t the most prominent feature I admire about the movie. It was its uptake on romance and comedy that stood-out for me. The setting of where the movie took place made the story realistic to its viewers –although the setting probably overemphasized the title and its plot.

The characters were portrayed beautifully and realistically. Despite some few character errors, my personal favorite would be Claire (Vanessa Redgrave). Her strong personality and calming demeanor are characteristics you find in a normal grandmother but it was her funny attitude that made her seem younger and more radiant.

Claire’s romance stood out in the movie while Sophie’s trailed along. That was what I wanted because I believe that without Claire’s romance, Sophie wouldn’t find hers. It was quite smart of them because they brought in the right amount of attention at the proper time on both cases.

Hopefully, this movie will cause a stir in your heart as it did to mine. It was a delightful movie to watch, and I surely recommend this movie to anyone.
