The Collection

The Collection is an American action horror that was released in 2012 and is the sequel of the 2009 film, The Collector.

The plot bases itself around a serial killer who is one of the most brutal beings that authorities are yearning to hunt down and bring to justice. Just like the first film, the Collector kills all of his victims except for one, who he kidnaps and tortures to soon be kept as part of a "collection".

As I was lamely wandering through my list of Netflix recommended movies, I stumbled upon this and had it residing on my instant queue for quite some time. Tonight was a quiet and rather lonely Saturday and with nothing more to do, I finally decided to see what this consisted of.

I assumed The Collection would be a typical movie with no plot whatsoever and poorly made. Boy was I wrong.

You don't have to watch the prequel to understand the second part of the film itself. As the opening scenes flicker on screen, we, as the viewers, are bombarded with a string of broadcasts speaking of horrendous killings and kidnappings. The movie evolves rather thoroughly and flows well with the events that continuously stumble along the eighty two minute time span of the movie.

Of course, as in any horror movie, we have our ray of worthless characters who are supposed to be bait for our main stars to get away while possible. The Collection rid each individual abruptly or in a way that the viewer surely doesn't see coming. I was actually quite impressed with the intensity of it along with the never ending suspense.

I would keep away from this film if gore and blood is not of your domain. Though this isn't as bloody as the Saw series, it still classifies as something that gets under your skin and makes you cringe. This movie led me to cover my eyes as some parts were just too horrific to watch. I don't think I've ever even cringed or gasped the way I have, but the villain portrayed in this film was one that really did make me look over my shoulder occasionally.

Overall, I would recommend this movie to any person who enjoys a good action horror. I typically watch these things alone, but with a good friend to share a few gasps and horrid glances with, it can turn any boring night into something worthwhile.
