I actually didn't cry at the gas station scene either, but my friend did! Ha ha, I appreciate your comment. I didn't read the book as I saw a review on Youtube about how John Green recycles characters and re-uses the same formula in all his books, so I was put off by that, but as you know, I love the movie!

I finally saw this movie the other day and it really exceeded my expectations (which were high). I was a little disappointed that they didn’t include some of my favourite lines but I understand that they can’t cram everything from abook into its movie adaptation.

When I saw that Shailene Woodley had been cast as Hazel I was pretty disappointed because when I see her I immediately think of her character Amy in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, who really annoys me. However, I’ve grown to like her after watching The Fault In Our Stars. Also I completely agree with you about Ansel Elgort, he really did play the role of Augustus Waters expertly.

Surprisingly I didn’t cry during the movie, I did tear up though but not at the same parts that made me cry while reading the book. The thing that hit me the hardest was Laura Dern’s performance of a mother loosing her child, as opposed to the gas station scene which made me cry like a baby when I read it but did little once I saw it on screen.

    Anyway, nice review. Cute

I am the complete opposite to this haha, I read the book quite a while back and I've only recently seen the movie, I didn't enjoy the book at all as I felt that it was quite poorly written and fast paced and I felt the same about the movie haha, I don't think that they did the best job in picking the actors and I feel that they could have done a better job?? Ah well, I'm glad one of us enjoyed it!! Haha :')

Thanks for your comment! They did a great job in picking the actors, in my opinion. I love Gus! Lol.

I found the book at wal-mart and recognized the authors name and read it without realizing it was being made into a movie. I absolutely enjoyed the book and fell in love with Gus and Hazel's relationship. I even loved Isaac. Then when I was finished, I heard about it being made into a movie and made my boyfriend go see it with me. tehe I agree with you, it was fast paced in the beginning. I don't think they did the best job in picking out from the book what would be in the movie and sequencing them together so it wasn't so choppy or whatever. But oh my god the actors were perfect. especially Gus. They all had my crying from the middle of the movie to the end. Cry So emotional.

The raw emotion in this movie is one of the reasons I was crying so much ;)

Thanks for your comment! Yeah, looks like I wasn't the only one bawling crying ;) I didn't think much of Frozen, I was predicting most of the plot in my seat.

I know! I genuinely did think that it would be shallow slop, but I was pleasantly surprised!

i feel a bit hypocritical going on to state that i watched this without even reading the book, but in all, after watching the movie did i want to go out & nab the fault in our stars, because it really makes me wonder how great of an author john green must be. i guess it was bc of the hype everyone was putting out about this movie that made me want to hate it in some way, but of course, after taking a look into the movie on my own was i totally wrong about it.

the genuine emotion & truth behind this movie is absolutely admirable & let me just say that the innocence in this movie//story is wondrous.

I read the book a few months prior to the movie coming out, so I had really high expectations. To be honest, I didn't even want to see it because I thought it would just be disappointing, but like you so eloquently put..."I was wrong."
Haha, but seriously, it was worth seeing. My friend dragged me out, and although I was bawling about halfway through until the end, it was touching, and the characters were well-rounded.
I like your analysis of Hazel and Gus, I have to agree that they were a good couple because they complimented one another's personality traits.
Sometimes popular movies fall short of their expectations (for example, in my opinion Frozen was just OK), but in this case, it did not.

    Good review!

When I first saw the trailer, I was so disappointed (Mostly because of the song they played, which contained the lyrics: boom clap, you make me feel good, come on to me now.) I was like mrgun

But then I watched it and all was right in the universe.
