Commitment

Commitment (Alumnus or The Graduate) is a Korean spy thriller film that was released in 2013 starring Choi Seunghyun otherwise known as T.O.P from the K-Pop group BIGBANG.

Plot

Ri Myung-hoon (Choi Seunghyun) is a nineteen year old born and raised in North Korea with the dream of becoming a pianist. When his father was framed and murdered with disgrace and shame upon his name, Myung-hoon and his younger sister, Hye-in (Kim Yoo Jung) were sent to a "guilt-by-association" labor camp. Military Colonel Moon (Jo Sung Ha) proposed a deal to Myung-hoon that if he wanted his younger sister as well as himself to leave the camp alive, he would have to become an agent (otherwise known as an assassin).

While taking the bait does Myung-hoon go to South Korea under the alias Kang Dae-ho, acting as if he were a transfer student at a high school where he befriends Hye-in, a bullied schoolgirl with the same name as his sister who reminds him of what he truly stands for.

Overall

There's nothing more heart wrenching than watching your favorite character befall horrendous bouts of fate. The emotional roller coaster that Myung-hoon's character drags you through is something that really pained me. Here you see an innocent nineteen year old who's being forced to do heinous things for his sister.

While the plot is yet another movie based with North Korea and hinting at Kim Jong-il and Kim Jong-un, I have to say it's something that I thoroughly enjoyed, especially since T.O.P was the main star. While many have said that there was no actual plot, I thoroughly disagree. You see Myung-hoon starts off with the need to protect his sister and up until the very end does he do that, as well as saving Hye-in, his new found friend.

Aside the emotional aspect of this, the action was absolutely perfect. I can't begin to explain how brilliant Choi Seunghyun was in this. Not only is he a great actor, but you can tell that he definitely fits the role of a nineteen year old assassin doing nothing but keeping his promise to his sister. A promise that he simply won't break.
