Oh, you called it homosexual that's why I asked, but I get what you mean. I even thought so on some bits myself, can't blame you there. Did you watch the rest of it? Other than the first episode, I mean.

I didn't really think it was yaoi, it just seemed a bit fruity

Some scenes kind of seem like shounen-ai but not yaoi. Still it's not categorized as such.
Take Kuroko no Basuke for example. The are fics where everyone pairs up the guys from the basketball team with each other but it's not yaoi or even shounen-ai. Everyone ships whatever they like in their minds, I guess.
Why did you think it was yaoi?

I found it through tumblr where everyone pairs up and ships them and I've only seen the first episode but I thought it was really homosexual

Oh, first time hearing it (reading it). Truth be told, I found about this anime thanks to another mibbian. She had the picture of Rei as the banner of her layout for her blog entries (if I remember right). I asked how the anime was called and when I got the chance, I watched all the episodes in one day.

Yep, pretty much. Everyone refers to it as "the gay swimming anime" or "gay swimming anime."

Free! is not gay, and anime with that kind of relationships are called yaoi.

Lately I was into sports types of animation, and Free! along with Kuroko no Basuke were the best I could find.

Before I even read the review I was just there like "gonna watch it". Call me weird but those anime characters look like hotties. I need no other reason :') great review by the way. I'll be coming to you for more anime recommendation ;) Once I finish watching Free!

This anime was one of the first in a long time that I enjoyed soooo much. Fav of the year.
