Missing You

Missing You, also known as I Miss You, is a South Korean drama that had aired from November 7, 2012 to January 17, 2013 on MBC. Missing You is a 21 episode drama that had one exciting hour shown every week. Of course, since I had seen this on a different website, I got to live as many hours as I possibly could.

Plot

High school sweethearts, Han Jung Woo (Yeo Jin-goo) and Lee Seo Yoon (Kim So-hyun) are fifteen years old and struggling with the events that life has inevitably thrown at them.

Han Jung Woo had previously gone to school in America before coming back to Korea to stay with his aggressive father and uncaring stepmother. Of course, his loving little sister, Ah Reum, adds a little excitement to his life. Being fifteen years of age, Han Jung Woo doesn't see anything wrong with his selfish and dominating father aside the stress levels he has to go through on a daily basis as he is chairman of a bank. What he doesn't know is the dark side of his father which will surely be the end of him.

On the other end of the spectrum, Lee Seo Yoon, a fragile, bullied, and introverted young girl has gone through a traumatic experience. News of her father being a murderer and being murderered himself has tarnished her as well as her mother in the small area which they've come to call home.

When Han Jung Woo and Lee Seo Yoon cross paths, it's obvious to see the immediate attraction and connection. Here stands Jung Woo, a confident, indepenent and popular newbie facing off with Seo Yoon, a shy, introverted, and scared girl not knowing what a friend even is.

Upon knowing about her history and who her father was, Jung Woo of course approaches the situation harshly. Not knowing what to do, he simply states for Seo Yoon to leave him alone, but when realizing that it was her father that had committed those unconsiderable crimes and not her, he comes back to state that everyone needs a friend and since no one liked her, he would take a chance for her.

Their friendship grows each day and turns into unconditional love. Kim Eun Joo and her father, preferably known as Detective Kim, help Seo Yoon and her mother by bringing them into their home, a much safer and kinder neighborhood.

The bond that is formed with these individuals is soon tarnished as Han Tae Joon, Jung Woo's father, is in the middle of his own crime breaking scandal. Money hungry, he attacks the mother of Kang Hyun Joon, terrorizing her into giving up something that is of great value. When she refuses to give Han Tae Joon what he wants, he turns to bringing harm to her child by letting loose two dogs that attack him horrendously.

As Kang Hyun Joon escapes as nothing more but a twelve year old at that time, he suffers from a wound to his leg that, fourteen years later, forces him to use a cane.

Fourteen years later, Han Jung Woo is searching desperately for Lee Seo Yoon who he had inevitably lost after a horrific incident seperated the two and left them searching for answers to all their unanswered questions

Overall

This is my third K-Drama and I can't begin to explain how excited I was with this. From the cast down to the plot line, I was absolutely mesmerized. With just enough crime, suspense, and mystery to keep you guessing for all the suspects, I never thought I'd be clinging to this drama as I had been.

Kang Hyun Joon who was played by Yoo Seungho was by far the best criminal mastermind I have come to see played out on TV. While he goes against Han Jung Woo who later becomes a detective, played by Park Yoochun, the chemistry both have as they despise one another is brilliant.

Lee Seo Yoon, played by Yoon Eun-hye, shows nothing more than an innocent, naive young girl who gradually turns into a woman trying desperately to hate her past and all the individuals within it.

Yoo Seungho though. I can't begin to express how much I adored his character. Absolutely loved it down to the core. I originally began to watch the drama because of South Korean singer, Park Yoochun, who was a previous member of TVXQ and now, current member of JYJ, but my feelings had done a double take.

For once, you feel sympathy for the villian role even though his actions are wrong, but from his past history, you can't blame him. Without giving too much away, his obsession for a female character stated more than just his pain. When losing his mother, he turned to Seo Yoon and though he loved her dearly, she had never loved him in that way. Of course, the pain of heartbreak, loss, and lonliness was enought to make him as bitter as he is.

And though I shouldn't, I felt bad for him until the end, even after Seo Yoon and Jung Woo found and fell in love with one another again.

I recommend this drama to anyone and everyone looking for something to pass the time with. Even if you aren't k-drama biased, it's definetely a must see. This passed all my expectations and is honestly one of the best drama's I have seen.
