A Clinic On The Sea

The Japanese drama, A Clinic on the Sea (海の上の診療所 or Umi no Ue no Shinryojo), is a show that easily captured many viewers' hearts. It stars a great cast with Shota Matsuda, Emi Takei, Norika Fujiwara, Sota Fukushi, and YosiYosi Arakawa being a few of the main characters. It is a romantic comedy that aired from October 14 to December 23, 2013, and has 11 episodes to its name.

Plot

Dr. Kota Sezaki (Shota Matsuda) volunteers to work upon the Kaishin-maru, a clinic boat that travels around the Seto Inland Sea islands to provide medical services to the people, for personal reasons. While evaluating patients, Mako Togami (Emi Takei), Sezaki's assisting nurse and former delinquent, thinks his methods are ridiculous and that he's a joke. This opinion of hers only grows stronger as the pair makes house calls to the patients on the islands, especially so when Dr. Kota continuously falls for the prettiest girl and attempts to swoon her.

Nurse Mako is always there to put Sezaki in his place, but as the crew of the Kaishin-maru continues on their voyage, she realizes just how great of a doctor he is and slowly accepts him as part of the crew. Dr. Kota, while always failing to land a pretty girl, saves many lives and helps dozens of patients as he visits each island. Throughout the Kaishin-maru's journey to deliver aid to those in need, Dr. Kota and Nurse Mako form strong bonds with one another and soon realize what the other means to them.

Overall

A Clinic on the Sea is a drama that I have thoroughly enjoyed and even managed to watch in one day because it was so addicting. The characters had their own personalities, bringing many different scenarios to the table, and the stories each episode contained were very heartwarming and endearing. The hilarious moments that are throughout the show made watching it a pleasure and the great actors brought the show to life. This was a drama that I believe anyone would want to and should watch as it was just so delightful. I recommend this drama to anyone and everyone and hope that it'll make you smile, laugh, cry, and amuse you just as it made me.
