Emma Taylor is a 18 year old girl stuck in the material life. Although she can be perceived as 'snobby' or 'conceited' she is anything but. Stuck in ways of society that she can't understand, Emma is a character that is constantly contradicting herself and what she believes in. While trying to rebel against the ways of life that she was taught, she finds herself always making her way back into the same grooves she made for herself rather than pursuing her goals. Emma's unwillingness to implicity change her ways is what frustrates a reader in the story and also allows us to watch Emma grow into the person she longs to be. She has a family consisting of her stepfather Charlie [45], her mother Bethany [43], her brother Chad [21] and her younger brother Brett [12]. Her father died in a plane crash, leaving Emma's mother widowed and her family abandoned.

Jace Fox

Jace Fox is the leading hobo of the story. Thrown out of his home at the age of 16, Jace has been inhabiting the streets with a constant thrill for survival. Although reader's are still yet to learn why Jace has been disowned from his family, it is apparent that his actions involving are not left individual. Crude and sarcastic, Jace adds a harsh humor into Emma's life that isn't always appreciated but leaves the reader entertained whenever he is involved in a scene. His seemingly 'angelic' and 'clean' appearance is a constant bother to Emma, for she is unable to understand how he is able to be homeless and yet is able to maintain such a well-kept appearance. Jace is a character of mystery and interest, constantly pushing boundaries with Emma while we are yet to discover whether or not he is truly serious. The known Family members of Jace are his father, John Fox and mother Janette Fox. Siblings are unknown and there seems to be no other reference to any other family of Jace.

Known for his sly and mature moves, William is a character that most people find themselves disliking without any real motive. His interest in Emma is used only for his own benefit and is usually used as a way to achieve his goals, which is apparent throughout the story. William isn't as innocent and ideal as he plays himself out to be. His history with Jace is unknown but the fact that they have history is.

Samuel "Sam" Bellefleur

Samuel "Sam" has been Emma's boyfriend for almost two years. Besides being a volleyball/baseball star, Sam is what most consider to be the 'ideal boyfriend'. Although Sam and Emma's relationship and confrontations with each other may come across as awkward, it's only because of the pressures of both family sides pushing for the two to wed after high school.
