Rosemarie Hathaway is the shadow-kissed best friend of Princess Vasilisa Dragomir, who she had known since kindergarten. She becomes shadow-kissed when involved in an accident that kills the other Dragomir Moroi and leaves her dead and brought back by Lissa; this allows her to feel what Lissa is feeling and to take the darkness she experiences due to the spirit magic she uses. Rose takes Lissa away from the Academy when a teacher (who is also a spirit user) convinces her that the spirit will get her taken away because it will drive her crazy. Dimitri Belikov is a twenty-four year old Dhampir guardian. It is revealed in the fourth book that he has three sisters, Karolina, Sonya, and Viktoria, whom he grew up with. His grandmother, Yeva, and mother, Olena, raised the four in a town called Baia in Southern Siberia. He was supposed to be one of Lissa's guardians and is Rose's love interest. He has a slight Russian accent. He has a strong dislike for Moroi men who use Dhampir women, because his Moroi father used to beat his mother. Dimitri cares deeply for Rose. He is known to like reading western novels. In the first book, a novice named Mason Ashford describes him as an "anti-social god", due to his reputation as a strong guardian and preference of being alone. Vasilisa "Lissa" Dragomir, Rose Hathaway's best friend, is the last of the Dragomir clan of Moroi royalty. Lissa's family was in a fatal accident which killed them all, but Lissa, using the Spirit element, brought Rose back from the dead. This made Rose shadow-kissed and left them with a strong bond which enables her to see through Lissa's eyes and take the rage from her while off her medications. The Spirit using Moroi nephew of Queen Tatiana, Adrian Ivashkov has graduated school and enjoys the nightlife of Court when he meets Lissa and Rose. He finds out Lissa is also a Spirit user and proceeds to teach her more about her magic as well as learns from her. He shows no outward signs of being affected by Spirit because he spends much of his time getting drunk and smoking, thus numbing him to its effects. He develops a strong affection for Rose, which goes unrequited, and attempts to woo her as he would any other girl, to no avail. He has a protective nature of younger students, which surprises Rose, and shows a semi responsible side at times. His aunt, the Queen of the Moroi, constantly tries to set him and Lissa up, which both are uninterested in (having their own ideal significant others). His parents willingly became Strigoi . They planed on taking Christian and turning him when he was older, but his Aunt Tasha protected him from them long enough for a regiment of guardians to come and kill them, unfortunaly her face was scarred for life. Christian had witnessed it all when he was very young. Many people tended to stay away from the Ozera's after the incident, especially Christian. Although he isn't Strigoi himself, some people thought he wasn't far off, with the way he always wore black and kept to himself.
