Derek Morgan is an FBI agent, and works for the Behavioral Analysis Unit. Whether he be kicking down doors, or saving a victim, he is almost always in the center of action. Derek, though he doesn't show it, is dating Dr. Spencer Reid, another member of the BAU. Though Spencer wants to be open about their two year relationship, Derek refuses. He says he has his reasons, but he never seems willing to explain them to Spencer. As a teenager, he was sexually abused by someone he saw as a father figure- something that he works hard to hide from his team.

Spencer Reid is highly intelligent, with an IQ of one hundred eighty-seven and an eidetic memory. Spencer was a victim of severe bullying in school, seeing as he graduated from high school when he was only twelve-years-old. Spencer still has nightmares from the time he was kidnapped by Tobias Hankel, a man with split personalities. Spencer once struggled with a drug addiction after the kidnapping, but has since then overcome it. Spencer has been dating Derek Morgan for over two years, and though he wants to be open about their relationship, he's willing to keep it a secret. He's actually madly in love with Derek, but hasn't told him due to the restrictions on their relationship. Derek usually refers to him as "pretty boy" and most other members of the BAU team call him "kid." He hates the fact that he's the baby of the group, and everyone treats him as such.

Penelope Garcia

Penelope Garcia is the BAU team's technical analyst. She rarely joins the team members as they relocate to the towns where ***s are taking place. Instead, she stays at the BAU headquarters and does her handy-work from there. She lost both of her parents at a young age and taught herself to be a computer hacker.

Emily Prentiss

Emily Prentiss is the daughter of a Russian ambassador, and is an eager member of the BAU. She is a graduate of Yale, and as she spent most of her childhood traveling in the Middle East, she is fluent in Arabic. She is also fluent in Italian and Spanish, and can speak a bit of Russian. She isn't afraid of being hurt; once when she and Spencer were kidnapped, she took the heat and was beaten very badly. She is incredibly smart and has, in fact, seen through Derek's ruse. She knows that he loves Spencer, and is completely supportive of it.

Jennifer "JJ" Jareau

Jennifer, or as she is more commonly called- JJ, acts as the team's liaison between the media and local police agencies. She dates Detective William LaMontagne Jr. When JJ told Will that she was pregnant, he asked her to marry him and made it clear that he was willing to give up his job so she could keep hers. Though she rarely has a chance to show it, she does have a more playful side and often gossips with Penelope Garcia.

David Rossi is the eldest member of the BAU. He was, in fact, once retired in order to write books and go on lecture tours, but returned to settle some unfinished business. Though the BAU team did solve his twenty-year-old case, Rossi stayed on with the team. He used to be quite the lady's man and still has quite a few fans.

Aaron "Hotch" Hotchner

Aaron Hotchner is the team's Unit Chief. He was previously married to his high school sweetheart, Haley, and they had a son named Jack together. Haley and Hotch divorced over Hotch's commitment to his job, and Haley was later killed by George Foyet. Hotch is almost always serious, and a few of the team members joke about how they have never seen him smile. He is strict about following rules and procedures, but it is obvious that he cares for his team members. If given the choice, he would more than likely put the team over himself and the rules. For a while it was thought that Hotch would retire from the BAU to be with his son, but Jack's aunt, Jessica, offered to help take care of Jack. Hotch returned to the BAU as Unit Chief.
