It seems as if his parents have stopped loving him, with his dad turning into an alcoholic he beats the living daylights out of Bentley whenever he needs to get his anger out or whenever Bentley just pisses him off, which is quiet often. His mother abuses him too but not in the same way as his dad. His mom just brushes oh his fathers beatings and tells him that's just the way his father is and to try not to piss him off so much. Feeling lonely and betrayed Bentley turns to a wide array of narcotics and becomes addicted, so addicted he will do anything to receive them, and one day it may just go to far.

His dad is always more worried about work and earning money to pay the hospital bills instead of putting his mom first. He feels inclined to help out with the money. Realizing he has no time for a real job and he needs, or more he wants extra money, he sees no easier way than selling his body. Ellie's only two friends turned their back to Ellie when they realized she wasn't going to stop popping pills after what was suppose to be just an experiment, and with that being that, Ellie became the pariah of her small town school, now shes picked on and made fun of, people talk about her and spread rumors. She sees she has nothing to live for and she deeply desires to commit suicide but deep down shes too afraid to go, and so she turns to her pills as a way of being closer to death. They help her forget, forget everything.
