No one really knows where he came from or why he doesn't speak. He is an enigmatic figure that no one understands. The only person he has ever spoken to was Teisily and that was under very odd circumstances.

She has a bright quirky personality, but hates it when she thinks people are ignoring her. She is rather protective of Alexei because he has been unofficially been adopted by her grandmother.
