When Claire's mother died, Claire was set with the responsibility of taking care of the six other kids left behind. But that was okay. It's not like it wasn't the norm already. The only thing about the problem was that Claire wasn't old enough to simply take care of them on her own. She had to marry Destery Smith/Moore. She promised to never marry someone she didn't love. I guess it's just lucky that Destery made her love him pretty quickly.

Moose met Claire when he was 15, while she was off visiting her aunt in Maryland. Her cousin Zoe had gotten into MSA for singing so they were there to pick her up. Zoe was late, so Claire started dancing on the school steps, bored of sitting still. Moose and his crew at the time had come out and seen her dancing, and quickly befriended her. They all kept in touch once Claire had to go back home. Moose went to NYU when he was 18 and Claire was there, in New York. She introduced him to her crew, and they managed to win the World Jam with his help.
