She loved Travie but didn't want to mess with the friendship. She dated hot, but horrible guys that'd beat her. That was the period that she wasn't talking to Travie. Then outta the blue Travie calls her to move to L.A with him. She was living with her dead beat bf Joshua who had recently beat her. She packed up and left. Not to mention Travie beat the shit outta him when he picked up Rina. They left and he kissed her, she was so shocked she didn't know what to think. He gave her one of his many rings as a promise. Rain was raised by her parents in Santa Barbara until the age of 12 when they were killed in a car accident. Then she was packed up and shipped off to her Aunt Bluebell (or Aunt Blue), who was probably the weirdest, coolest hippy she'd ever met. Of course that entire generation of her family seemed to be hippies, including her parents (who changed their names legally from Chelsea Collins to Trinity Orchard and Christopher Matthew to Phoenix Orchard when they married). Sometimes she would visit her grandparents who lived in Sacramento, which is where she met Rina. Four years ago she received her first tattoo from Rina's friend (and crush) Travis. It was hidden on her stomach from her grandparents, but Aunt Blue was ecstatic! Off and on she would visit her grandparents and Rina during school breaks from the time she was 12 until she was nineteen. Rina told Rain that she was moving to LA, so Rain moved in with Rina and her now boyfriend Travis. By association Rain would see Jared every now and then, which led to her crush on him. There's a story behind her name too

Travis was the middle child of five in an average Sacramento home. At a young age he became interested in a career in music or tattooing, so his grades began to slip. It was amazing that he was even able to pass the classes without putting any effort in, but Travis did it. He was very smart. Until his tenth grade year Travis was able to do everything school related without so much as thinking for more than a minute. By the time things actually required effort he was able to drop out, which he did. Since the age of sixteen, Travis has been tattooing friends and family. Almost the second he turned eighteen Travis was beginning an apprenticeship at a local tattoo shop. This of course wasn't paying the bills, so Travis began a side project---selling drugs. Only Rina, his childhood friend, knew about this. She barely spoke to him during this time. Just before his twenty-first birthday he had enough money to pursue his dream; opening a tattoo shop in LA. He packed up his things, quit the drug business, and called Rina immediately. Even though he struggles with his own additions, Travis couldn't be in better shape. He also met his former childhood friend in LA, Jared Mitchell. The two lived over an hour apart but had met during an elementary school camp and sent each other letters on/off for years.

Jared grew up in Oakland, California to a single mom with two other siblings. One being Alex Mitchell (the oldest who is now age 26) and the other being Madison "Maddie" Mitchell (age 15). Alex and Jared share the same father and mother, but Maddie has a different father. Even though Jared wasn't the oldest of the three he always felt like a father figure to his sister Maddie. Alex was the worker; Jared the one who stayed home. Until Jared was 14 and able to work this was how it was. Even then he watched after his mother and sister between school and work. At the age of 15 he dropped out of high school and began working full time like his brother Alex. This would continue until his nineteenth year when Alex (who had already moved out, but was still helping) and he decided it was time to have their mother step up to the plate. It was understandable at first why she wouldn't do anything, but it was ridiculous at this point. Finally, by the age of twenty Jared was able to move out.
