  Cassia left her village as a teenager. Her family accused her of being a witch, and they sold her to a slaver. She had been assisting the midwives of her owner's home until his child was stillborn. He accused her of bewitching his wife and taking the baby for her own. She was cast out, left to die in the snow and ice, when a slaver on the way to the Coliseum picked her up. Her experience with the midwives allowed her to be placed as an aid to the healers, assisting injured gladiators and relinquishing those who would not survive.

  Sara is a healer at the Coliseum. She has been there for nearly ten years, and though at times she truly despises it, she knows it's where she is supposed to be. She formed a special bond with Cassia and is often times the young woman's guide. She pays no attention to the politics of the Coliseum, as her fate has always been sealed here.

  Aurora was taken from her home when she was a little girl. She was used as her owner's plaything through her teenage years, and she had taken brutal beatings from his wife. All she has known is suffering. When another slaver passes through town, he sees how beautiful she is and buys her from her owner - at a great cost. Her new owner tells her how wonderful of a prize she will be to the gladiators, though she can't imagine her life getting any worse.

  Jada is one of the prizes at the Coliseum. When she was a teenager, she saw her family slaughtered by slavers, and she was kidnapped when her beauty saved her life. She is used to it now - priming the gladiators before their fights and then pleasuring them afterwards. What she didn't expect was to befriend a new prize named Aurora. She takes her under her wing and attempts to comfort her on her first few nights there.

She can do almost any task she is given, and as a useful tool, she has lived in almost every climate. She is a very intelligent young woman, despite never having learned to read or write. She has been a slave at the Coliseum for nearly three years now, and she is beginning to lose hope that she will ever find her way out of slavery.

  Elora's family is one of the wealthiest in the States. Her family travels to the Coliseum every Thursday, Sunday, and Monday, and they often sit with the highest officials. She is prim and proper, and she never goes anywhere without her handmaiden, Naia. She enjoys going to the Coliseum to survey the men there in the hopes that one day she will find a husband as strong and powerful as the gladiators.

Things change slightly for her when her friend takes an interest in an unlikely man.
