Wild, uncontrollable and self-assured, Frank is the boy everyone wants; the object of Gerard's affections. He warms instantly to Gerard and they strike a close and crazy friendship between them. Frank shows himself to be unpredictable and, at times, a little self-destructive; both his repelling and more appealing qualities. He lives for the moment, not regretting anything that made him smile. All the while, he represses the difficult times he holds in his past as much as he can. Something that may or may not come back to haunt him.

When Gerard moves to New Jersey, he is quiet and shy. He dislikes confrontation and avoids it as much as possible. Put quite simply, he doesn't like to make waves. His newfound friendship with Frank Iero leads him to come out of his shell and slowly gain more self-confidence. In Frank, Gerard gets more than he bargained for: from realising he has a life-changing crush on Frank to learning of Frank's party-hard ways. At times, Frank is inconsiderate to Gerard's feelings but does Gerard allow himself to be treated like a doormat?

Mikey is Gerard's younger brother. His interests and behaviour concern his parents at times, lead Gerard to labelling him a freak and a low friend-count. Unlike his older brother, Mikey is less bothered about what others think about him and does his own thing, enjoying himself all the while. As long as he's having fun, why should others bring him down? However, Mikey is easily distressed and displays characteristics of child depression when Don leaves home.
