Your description and narration was very appropriate to the story; not over the top and not lacking at all. There's an aura of mystery and drama that surrounds Daniel's death, and the reader can sympathize with Monique's muddled feelings as she thinks of her life now. I would prefer it with more emotion, more reality and grief, but other than that, good job. :D
