The first chapter is really great. It reminded me of Garth Nix when you where talking about the five Kingdoms for some reason but the chapter is really well written.
Only found a couple of mistakes in this chapter.
He waved to Megan, one of the manor’s guards, and his favourite. She sometimes let him have a go of her sword, and she often looked he other way when he was about a bit of mischief. Now, Megan gave him a conspiratorial winked as he passed and pointed to the stables
