Heart melting.
Really, I don't think I've read such a realistic insight into how Gerard feels, or felt throughout his becoming the rock star he is now.
I can imagine how he could feel all of those things that were in the story - why he took the drugs and alcohol, how he still felt like he was in the same body as he was when he was a teenager, what it feels like to be called a hero when going through the addiction he went through... It just highlights so many issues from his past that people put him down for, and if it doesn't justify them, it most certainly makes one empathize.
