This was great! My heart practically melted when he was strumming his fingers to the beat of their song; that was just adorable. And I'm so glad that he didn't mean what he had said, and he was man enough to apologize to her. I'm even happier that she accepted the apology, and it seems like things are gonna work out for them. I just loved the whole thing. :)

He felt his heart constrict in his chest as the painful image was projected in his brain. He had spent two years trying to protect her from any harm, had tried his damnedest to keep her happy, and he was able to destroy all that work with two simple sentences.

Aww... it takes a lot to build something up, but usually very little to tear it all down. It sucks, but it's the darn truth :(

He kept his eyes trained on the bare road in front of him and he began to drum his fingers on the steering wheel in a familiar beat.

To the beat of their song.

That's so sweet.. mostly because it's done absentmindedly. She plagues (that word is impossible to say without thinking of Jimmy now...) his conscious and uncounscious... so cute :)

Their song continued to play in his head, playing in his heart. It was as if his heart was stuck on that song like a radio whose dial was jammed in place. His heart was caught, hung up on the mistake he had made two weeks earlier.

I love that part specifically. It's just worded so nicely and you can really understand what he's feeling with the song being on his mind. So yes, very nicely done.

And I love the ending. I like how they both agree he's an idiot and stupid for what he did.. but she lets it go and realises it was a heat of the moment thing. It's nice that it's also left open with the marriage situation... coz it's not perfect with him proposing (even though he's not ready) but she's okay with that.

So yes, as I said earlier, I really think this is some of your best work. Honestly! :D
