I actually didn't write this chapter,a nd my co-author isn't linked to this, so i'm nt sure i can answer you question... about ryan being pulled down. but i generally assume it was being pulled towards him, Cause i'm pretty sure Spence IS standing... so, we'll just say that spence pulls Ryan towards him,...lol.
