The way its written in present tense makes it feel like its happening at the moment. Something recent.
The lyrics go perfectly to this. Makes sense.
I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn’t even matter. This part always reminds me of how pointless life can be. When you try so hard, it all seems to clash down and turn rotten in life. Makes me feel like life is pointless and meaningless. Like its not even worth trying anymore.
"And I have the tendency to treat others the way they treat me; I began doing the same to you," is like that phrase of treat others the way you want to be treated being returned to the person.
That is a very hard decision. But at least there is not much crying anymore. Though, everything must seem like a lie having to do this and live "happy" every day. Too hard.
Nice ending. In the end, it doesn't even matter. Funny how time flies so quickly. =/
