I really liked the way that you ended it, with him writing to his wife, and baby, I'm guessing. It was extremely short, but I think you did a pretty good job. I liked the way you used the quote, I didn't interpret the quote that way.

I absolutely love this, and I feel that it being short strengthens your point. I think you could even add more personal details to the characters so the reader could feel a stronger bond with the man that is seeing so much pain, and eventually succumbs to it. I believe it would give the reader feelings of anti-war without saying "be anti-war"
