Wonderful update, this is one of my favorite frerards on this site, no lie. I hope things work out for Frank and Gerard..
And actually I had a dream about this story.. it was a bit odd.
They escaped but Mr. Ward found them.. like Frank visited his dad in this house and was taking a cat with him.. and hot wired a car with Gerard and then went down the highway but at the end of the exit Mr. Ward found them.. and they had to stay there for like another fifteen years, but they were to be together. So I guess it worked out.
So yeah, awesome story. Very deep, very detailed. I absolutely LOVE it.
I know you said you're no longer posting Scum on Mibba but I'm going to beg. I'm not going to tell you that you simply must keep posting because that's rude and it's your story, meaning you can do with it what you will.
I only discovered this fic today and have just read the entire thing through.
I really loved this fic! (Never seen the film either)
You created an instant bond between Gerard and Frank without having to have them rip each others clothes off and scream out 'I love you!'. They're a brilliant couple and I love how you created this sense of love between them without having to introduce sex (which would inevitably come in at some point). I also like how cigarettes are a regular theme in the plot and are important as Gerard and Frank tend to bond and develop together either in the privacy of their own cell or over a cigarette. The cigarettes also help create a sense of normality, rebellion and routine.
As the fic progresses, Frank seems to soften and Gerard seems to become more confident which I enjoyed watching because they still keep a sense of unpredictability about them!
Ray and Bob. I loved both of their characters. They seemed like the two who tactfully change the subject when someone's upset and brought a general cheer to the harsh environment the boys were in. I was so upset to see Ray spiral downwards until we lost him. And seeing Bob go shortly afterwards. I as a reader became attached to these characters and their demise felt like a kick in the gut. Their memorials were brilliant. And how everyone silently agreed when they saw what Frank had done with the footballs heavily implied the upmost respect for the both of them.
Mr. Ratchet. He's very much the Father figure to the boys. I did wonder about him when he told Gerard to smile when cutting his hair. I wasn't too sure about him as a person but I've grown to trust he is the one that cares for the boys. The only thing that irritates me is the fact that he's just as trapped as the boys he cares for. He doesn't make one move to protect them.
Mr. Ward. Despise him. Enough said.
Well, I won't keep badgering on because, believe me, there is so much I could say about this but I doubt you want an essay on your hands!
I'm going to ask once again, please re-consider! Please?
Right, I'm off to read chapter 17 on the website thingy.
Frank you for your time.
Bye.
