Wow. That was really, really good. The writing style was fantastic. The descriptions set up the mood and the setting fantastically. The only thing that threw me off was when you told us when the flashback was, and when it ended. I think if you could find a different way to segue it, it would let the story flow better. That was a sad, sad ending. It works well with the rest of the story, of course. The ending line gives a note of finality, which is really nice. All in all, very well done.
