AWWWWWW dude!!!! Poor Michael & Kayla. It is wonderful how he is fighting for the country but he isn't so willing to do so. I understand his view points completely. His reasons to not fight and stay home with his fiance is backed up with logic which I really like for characters in stories. Sometimes, it's good to know that characters have logic behind the actions they take, it makes the story more realistic and helps the readers connect to the characters of the story more.
