I'm sort of confused, but you use great descriptive language and it seems like you're off to a really interesting start.

It is pretty cool story so far. My only suggestion is to probably have a friend proofread because they usually are able to catch any mistakes. But fortunately, there wasn't many, so kudos to that. Also, it actually rains everywhere in California except it is rare in the few deserts we have.
