We Bend Before We Break - Comments

I’m here as the new host for ‘The Band Dude Contest’.

So I’m not at all familiar with Def Leppard’s members, so I actually had no idea who Rick Allen was until I looked at the characters page, oops. I went into this treating it like an original fiction, but it was still really cute. I liked how Audrey was stressing out so much over Rick’s parents coming because it was realistic, especially her eagerness to have Rick’s mother like her. I’m kind of a worrier too so the dessert thing made me laugh because I related to it a lot. It’s something I would have done. Rick was such a sweetheart too. He was really compensating and understanding, but also grounded Audrey when she absolutely needed it.

I do wish you would have had Rick refer to Audrey by her name in the actual story, though. I didn’t know if the narrator even had a name until, once again, I looked at the character pages. You clearly put a lot of thought and consideration into creating her (what with all the qualities you listed on her page), so I would have liked to have at least known her name from reading the actual story. It’s such a small little detail, I know, but it kind of bothered me that I only knew because I looked rather than because you told me/Rick called her by her name in his comforting. I really wanted to know both characters intimately.

All in all, this was a really cute and sweet one-shot so good job!

You really have him down pat, though. Like, everything he does in here and all his little Rick-isms seem to fit so well. It's really vivid. And I can imagine him saying all the dialogue in his voice and it just flows really good. You wrote this reaaaally fucking well.
