-“I know you don’t want to talk, but there's still something else we need to tell you”
-Oh yeah, that’d be *the* icing on the cake
-I really wasn’t in the mood to talk to the woman who I *had* thought was my mother for a whole eighteen years.
-I was now standing *on*
-I waited nervously for someone to answer. (cut out 'the maroon door'. it sounds contrived)
-His cheeks were dotted with just enough freckles to bring out his eyes*.* His lips were thin*,* but looked like they would be *heavenly intertwined with* someone else’s.
-His eyes held *a curious gleam*.

Sorry if it's a bit nit-picky, but I usually adore comments like this. xP My advice is to leave out unnecessary details that tie down your story.
