The first paragraph captured my attention. Your writing is absolutely lovely. It's not overly detailed, just detailed enough. You make good use of metaphors as well. Your characters are real and you conveyed very well in few words. I liked this one shot very much! Cliffhangers... Jeez. Why must you just leave us here hanging? XD

Anyway, this was a lovely little story. Different, too. I think you should listen to the voices of the masses here, and give them some more chapters xD

My heart broke for Amanda when the families were greeting the dancers and she knew hers weren't there. That was really sad.
