I lost my grandfather a few months ago. I feel like it will always be a 'few months' even when those months add up to years. Reading this piece, I wish I could hear your grandfather's stories too. I want to get to know more about your relationship with him and your relationships with your other family members. Why are these hugs from your mom so rare? Why do these cousins feel like sisters? Why is your dad so ashen at the news? I want to get more about your family, short tales or memories to really bring the characters to life.

This is a good story with a lovely, compassionate idea behind it. It's something we can all relate to and has a lesson behind, one which we all wish we could quickly exhibit after a death - live through the grief. It's so hard to do that and the picture she saw of herself surrounded by family, embracing in a way which can only be described as supportive and loving - that goes to show that life goes on. Death is a part of life, as we all know, and you portrayed beautifully just that.

    A very well written piece!

this is a good short story, but it's left unsaid. What happens after all this? I mean, it's really really really short... but a lot of people could relate to it, but to me this was pointless. I'm writing a comment again because i'm forced too. I liked it, but didn't because I wish it was a longer story. I'm sorry for your loss though, nut you really are a really good writer!
