  • Super excited-- I never knew people actually write about Howl's Moving Castle. You've got a great voice for Howl and Calcifer. Calcifer is one of my favorite characters of Miyazaki's, so I was a little anxious about reading it; wicked job, keep it up.

  • Someone recommended the story, and I can say I am soooo glad that someone brought this story to my attention. =)

I'm a huge fan of the movie Howl's Moving Castle, and a lot of the other Studio Ghibli movies. But I would've never expected to see a fanfic related to these stories so to come across a well written and well structured one, I can definitely appreciate this story.
The scene you started the story off of is one of my favorite scenes from that movie. Also the song "The World's Promise", is actually one of my favorite songs. =) It was a perfect summary---strange, because you didn't say anything about the story or the plotline, but any fan of Howl could appreciate how much that song means to the story. It was pretty much the hook and nail for me as a reader.
As I was reading I was literally seeing the scene replay over again in my head. This is great; I never really thought about the story in Howl's point of view.
And the way Calcifer spoke, it made me smile, thinking "Yup, that's the snappy fireball!"

And the details...oh my, I LOVE details!! And you definitely complimented Miyazaki's storytelling---I think that is the greatest compliment I have given a writer here so far!! Miyazaki is a master of great detailing, and your writing definitely stood strong to that level of skill. I know it's probably not something good to always compare writing to the original story or movie...but it was Howl, one of my very faves; I had some expectation of this grand adventure and story going in.
I have to say, I was not disappointed in the least bit. So please don't be offended that I made the comparison.

This truly felt like the untold side of the movie, and the more I read, the more I fell in love with your writing. =)
Please, keep this one! I'm definitely subscribing!!

  • I have... no idea what this is from, lol, but uh, I actually like it so far. I was a bit thrown off by the first chapter but I realized that the ball of fire was a demon of sorts. I'm curious as to where this is going, I think it will be interesting what happens when he finds the girl and then she finds out he has a fire demon. Or is that common in this fandom? Shifty
    lol, nice job anyways.

  • ahaha the commentor above me is very enthusiastic x) but I have to agree with her on this cause I'm actually really enjoying this. It's wonderful how you've kept all the characters in… well character. I'd never have the guts to try to work with someone else's work like this (explains why I'm not one to do fanfictions). But you're definitely not letting Diana Wynne Jones and Hayao Miyazaki down with this :3

  • Oh my god oh my god oh my god. Taka I love you so much for writing this<33 I love Howl's Moving Castle, the characters in that are so amazing and seeing them brought to life in this was just... gah. I loved it /fangirling. I can't find a single fault with this story, I really can't. I'm subscribing like crazy and going to pray for another update :3 I've read fanfictions of Mayazaki's work before and very few do it justice, but this, I have to say, does it perfectly. Calcifer is written so perfectly, I loved the bit with the promise of bacon, and the fact that now Howl's thoughts are written down and we can see it from his point of view. Ah, I could gush about how much I adore you for writing this, but I think I'll stop now before I go overboard :3
