I'm here as a judge for the First A7X Contest.

This was a really emotional piece. I think you captured the destructive nature of the lifestyle Jimmy was involved in really well. I also liked how you included him relapsing a couple times and then clinging to the one thing to really help him get clean. It was a realistic way to portray drug abuse and I'm glad that you avoided really romanticizing the drug abuse, because I see that too often in stories. I'm glad that Jay ended up leaving eventually and the letter explained why she stayed for so long. I have a bit of a hard time when stories have a significant other that stays through all of the crap that someone puts them through and then suddenly everything is okay -- but you really followed a realistic plot arc and I appreciated that.

I felt like some things got a little repetitive as the story went on, mainly because you used the same or really similar wording whatever you mentioned the drugs, drinking, sleeping around, etc. I assume it was because you were really trying to get the point across, but I think it might have been a bit more effective if you changed the wording a little so it didn't feel quite as repetitive.

    Thanks for entering!

I knew this was going to be sad but I didn't think it would be the kind of tear jerker that had me ugly crying while stuffing myself with chocolate! I agree though, this is a great piece of writing! That little kitty is so cute!

This is so realistic, things like this happen to people all the time unfortunately, and I liked that Jay stuck with him, I think if my boyfriend were to do anything like that I would probably stick by him to, people do all kinds of crazy and stupid things when they're in love.

I can see why she left him though, I'm glad too, it was te wake up call that Jimmy needed, if she'd have stayed he would have probably ended up killing himself.

That letter... That's what did it for me, there were giant waterfalls falling down my face reading the letter. It was beautiful! And not just your normal, run of the mill love letter, so well thought out and just so beautiful. The little vows that Jimmy made to her, so romantic! I'm glad it kicked him into touch and made him sort himself out. When the little stick fell out it made me cry even harder, I'm such a sucker for a happy ending XD

Oh my, their own little language and signs, no need for words, so romantic and lovely! I'm so glad I got my happy ending, the baby really did save him

This is another of your stories I will bookmark and re-visit, I love it so much! :D

Wow...I followed a link from Tumblr and I'm glad I did. I am definitely feeling teary at this...just wow. I love the detail, how you can feel the heartbreak, everything. You have such a great writing style. I felt Jimmy's devil-may-care attitude and I felt Jay's heartbreak and resolve. But I think the ending was the most powerful, when he saw his son. Just wow. Well done!

The beginning, middle, and end were so captivating and raw it just made me cry a bit especially when Jimmy was reading the letter. It did make me wonder out of alldays why Jay suddenly left and now I know why. The way you incorporated having him being saved by his baby boy he didn't know about was brilliant. I love how you got creative with this. :) you never cease to amaze me
