    I just started reading and I'm in the circus(not joking:) and I believe what you are referring too are called 'silks' The knot he does with his foot we call a foot-knot. It's rather painful. Since the picture won't load on my computer, I'm not entirely sure that what you're talking about is silks, but the other options would be Spanish web or Straps!
