He looked so much like her, and she had never realized it until he was dead. ... So much familiarity there, and yet it was the face of someone she knew nothing about.
Those two lines were so interesting to me, not just from the point of introducing the story, but also because they're a feeling that I can relate to. Knowing someone in your family so well, and yet having this lingering feeling of knowing absolutely nothing. That whole portion described it wonderfully, and your whole summary drew me in. You did a great job of sparking my curiousity.
I love the way you place your reader right into the middle of the action with the first line. It was very different from many of the opening lines I've read lately. It grabbed me and I instantly wanted to know more about what was going on.
The way you intertwined the stories and the points of view was masterful! There were so many ways that it could have gotten confusing, or places where you could have lost the reader, but you kept everything together while adding more and more intrigue and interest the entire time. Your descriptions were amazing and the emotion and dialogue were all so very really.
This was absolutely amazing!
