Well, I agree with him that it's sad that he doesn't have a life apart from Ellie. But going to parties and getting so drunk you black out doesn't sound like something to fill the empty spaces in your life and make you happy either. He needs some kind of hobby or passion, like Ellie has her photography.

i agree with everything Mrs.JamesMaslow said in her comment. i like the idea of having both pov's in the story but i found myself skipping large parts of chapters that had been repeated from the last one. maybe if you focused more on what happened after the last chapter instead of repeating it but in a different point of view, it would be easier to follow and overall more interesting (just a suggestion).

-i apologise if i come across as harsh, or if i don't make sense since i didn't really know how to put it into words, but i do love this story so far and i'm looking forward to seeing how the relationship between ellie and luke progresses.
